Privacy Policy
How we handle information, cookies and advertising on this website. Your calculator inputs are never stored.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the website nhspaycalculator.uk/ (“NHS Pay Calculator”, “we”, “us”) collects when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to every page on this website.
1. Overview
The NHS Pay Calculator is designed with privacy in mind. All salary calculations run entirely inside your web browser. The figures you type into the calculator (such as your pay band, pay point, region, pension or student loan details) are not sent to our servers and are not stored by us.
The website is free to use and is supported by advertising. Advertising is provided by Google AdSense, which uses cookies and similar technologies. Section 4 and our Cookie Policy explain this in detail.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- Your name, email address or any other personal identifiers (unless you contact us — see section 8)
- Your salary, pay band or any other financial inputs entered into the calculators
- Your NHS Trust, employer or workplace
- Any special category data, such as health information
The calculator does not use your browser’s local storage or cookies to save what you enter. When you close or refresh the page, your inputs are gone.
3. Information Collected Automatically
Like almost every website, our hosting and content-delivery provider (currently Cloudflare) processes basic technical data when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page and the date and time of the request. This is needed to deliver the site securely and reliably, to prevent abuse and to produce aggregated traffic statistics. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors.
We do not currently use cookie-based analytics tools such as Google Analytics. If we introduce any, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.
4. Advertising and Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on this website. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. In summary:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s previous visits to this site or other sites on the internet.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Ads may be personalised or non-personalised depending on your location, your consent choices and your Google settings.
- Google and its partners may also collect information such as your IP address, device identifiers and the pages you view in order to deliver, measure and protect advertising.
How to control personalised advertising:
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices or, for UK and European visitors, www.youronlinechoices.com/uk.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings (see our Cookie Policy).
To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Google’s own privacy practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Where the law requires it (for example for visitors in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area), personalised advertising and non-essential cookies are only used with your consent, which you give or refuse through a consent message provided by a Google-certified consent management platform. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the privacy settings link or message shown on the site, or by clearing your browser cookies so that the message appears again.
We do not control which advertisers appear on the site, and we do not sell your personal information. Advertisements are provided by third parties; the appearance of an ad is not an endorsement by us.
5. Cookies
We do not set our own tracking cookies. Cookies that may be placed on your device when you visit are set by third parties, mainly Google, for advertising purposes. Our Cookie Policy lists the categories of cookies involved and explains how to manage them.
6. Third-Party Links and Social Media
This website links to third-party services such as YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest, and to official sources such as GOV.UK, NHS Employers and the NHS Pension Scheme. Those sites have their own privacy and cookie policies, and we are not responsible for their content or practices. We recommend that you read their policies when you visit them.
7. How We Use Information and Our Legal Basis
- Running and securing the website (technical data handled by our hosting provider) — legitimate interests in providing a reliable and secure service.
- Showing advertising (cookies and similar technologies set by Google and its partners) — your consent, where required by law; otherwise our legitimate interest in funding a free service.
- Replying to your messages — legitimate interests in answering your enquiry.
8. Contact Form and Email
If you contact us through the contact page or by email, we receive the details you choose to send (such as your name, email address and message). We use them only to respond to your enquiry and to improve the site, we do not share them with third parties for marketing, and we keep them only for as long as needed to deal with your request and for a reasonable period afterwards. Please do not include sensitive personal information in messages to us.
9. Data Retention
We do not hold calculator inputs. Emails and messages are kept only as long as necessary to answer them. Data processed by Google and other advertising partners is retained in line with their own policies.
10. International Transfers
Google and our hosting provider operate globally, so information processed on our behalf may be transferred to and stored in countries outside the UK. Where this happens, those providers rely on recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
11. Children
This website is a general information tool for adults who work in, or are considering working in, the NHS. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
12. Your Rights (UK GDPR)
Under UK data protection law you have the right to be informed about how your personal data is used, to access it, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it. Because we hold very little personal data, requests are uncommon, but you can make one by emailing [email protected] or through our contact page.
If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
13. Visitors Outside the UK
If you are in the European Economic Area, California or another region with specific privacy laws, you have the rights described by those laws, including controlling personalised advertising through the tools in section 4. We do not sell personal information.
14. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Because calculator inputs never leave your browser, they cannot be intercepted on our servers. No website can guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect the limited information we handle.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we change how the site is advertised or add new features. The date of the latest update is shown below. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
16. Contact
